Federation of the Disabled
We the Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs) and citizens of The Gambia whose names and physical addresses are hereto subscribed are desirous of forming an independent, non-profit, non-sectarian, non-political, developmental and non-governmental organization known as Gambia Federation of the Disabled (GFD), an umbrella organization representing DPOs.
EXERCISING our sovereign, inalienable and indeed noble cause of upholding human rights, challenging inequality and discrimination in The Gambia as enshrined in Sections (31) and (37) of the 1997 Constitution of The Gambia and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN-CRPD, 2006);
In recognition of the laws governing civil society organizations in The Gambia as stipulated in the NGO Act, that the Federation will act in fairness, compassion and understanding in its dealings with other organizations and individuals and that it will conduct itself professionally and with integrity;
NOTING that the Federation resources shall be placed at the disposal of deserving people on the basis of need and potential, and that ethnic, religious, gender or any other forms of discrimination will not take place, except in agreed circumstances where it may be appropriate to positively discriminate in favor of the most disadvantaged groups/DPOs and individuals;
Emphasizing the need to incorporate a gender perspective in all efforts to promote the full enjoyment of Human Rights and Fundamental freedoms by persons with disabilities;
CONSCIOUS of the need to contribute to nation building, appreciating the need to contribute individually and collectively to improving the quality of life, and being aware of the need to establish a viable community institutional structure to promote greater participation and involvement of the whole community of people with disability in the development process;
DO HEREBY RESOLVE on this …… day of April 2019, in the name of all members that the General Assembly proposals be adopted and do constitute and form the revised Constitution of the Gambian Federation of the Disabled (GFD) which shall be promulgated on this …… day of April 2019.
Name
The meaning (GFD) stand for THE GAMBIA FEDERATION OF THE DISABLED in short the FEDERATION
Location
The federation is located in MDI road, kanifing south, The Gambia.
Operations
The federation office operate five days a week from Monday to Friday by a admin secretary.
Regulations
Bye-laws and rules of the Federation as set and amended from time to time.
General Assembly
The supreme governing body composed of all members who subscribe to the aims of the Federation.
GFD's Status
The Federation is an independent, non-sectarian, non-political, non-governmental, non-profit making and developmental organisation and does not discriminate against any organisation or individual on the basis of gender, age, race, religion, disability or sexual orientation

GFD's external relationship
The Federation has develop and maintain official relations with the Gambia Government and its agencies, United Nations (UN) and its specialised agencies and organisations. The GFD shall also cooperate with other organisations representing or promoting the interests of Persons with Disabilities as well as those having a shared and common interest with those of the Federation
